Safety & Securing Public Airspace

crashThe coming proliferation of unmanned systems flying over our heads portends obvious safety concerns.  It takes little effort to envision nightmarish scenarios of errant drones causing personal injury and property damage.  In fact it’s not unreasonable to believe that the successful integration of drones into civilian skies is potentially only ever one bad accident away from failure.

Protecting public safety in this space is partially about ensuring safe design and sound engineering.  But it’s also about the ability of humans to develop with the technology to ensure its proper use, which means thinking about education and training, user interfaces, flight planning, safety check processes, and other variables necessary for attaining the reliability required for drone-based businesses to be viable ventures.  This roundtable will explore the safety issue from myriad perspectives to identify the best practices for keeping us safe from ourselves.
